Visiting the museum

Looking for a fun family activity or just something to do on a rainy day?  Come visit the Garrison Petawawa Military Museums and learn about Petawawa's contribution to Canada's Armed Forces!   

Group Tour Information

Groups are welcome and we do provide guided tours upon request.  As some of the galleries are quite small, we generally recommend that tour groups be no larger than 20-25 at one time.  We can also accommodate tours outside of regular hours depending on staff availability. Please Contact Us for more information or to book your group tour!

Our Museum

The Garrison Petawawa Military Museum is home to three main artifact collections. Each of these collections come together to give our visitors an informative and entertaining overview of Garrison Petawawa and how we fit in to Canada's Armed Forces today.  A visit to the museum is a great family activity for people of all ages to enjoy!

Canadian Guards Collection

Though the Canadian Guards were only active from 1953-1970, they have a rich and prestigious history that includes being the only regiment to call Petawawa their "Home Station".  

Our Mission Statement

The mission of the Canadian Forces Base Petawawa Military Museum is to collect, preserve and interpret the history of the individuals and units of the Canadian Armed Forces in Petawawa since 1905.

Our Vision

The Museums will serve as a positive influence in the community, broadening the scope of knowledge and understanding of the world we live in. The Museum will enhance the quality of life of our community through the delivery of activities and events that promote an understanding of the contributions and sacrifices of our military forces. The Museums are an important public relations tool of Garrison Petawawa.

  • To provide an educational and fun experience to our clientele, whether they be military or non-military, a child, educator or a senior;
  • To provide a high standard of customer service to our clientele in a pro-active and positive fashion;
  • To care for the collection
  • To ensure that we are exceeding the requirement of preservation, thereby ensuring our continued ability to maintain public trust, and
  • To continue to strive for high professional, ethical and moral standards in all that we do.

Garrison Petawawa Military Museum Mission

As an accredited DND facility, Garrison Petawawa Military Museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation, interpretation and display the history of the individuals and military units at Garrison Petawawa which have been, or currently are, stationed in Garrison Petawawa.

The Museums achieve these missions by:

  • Preserving and promoting the remembrance of our military past
  • Recognizing the service of Canada’s military personnel in peace and war through the education of the public, with emphasis on Canadian youth
  • Fostering of identity through the provision of training opportunities for military personnel
  • Nurturing an understanding of Canada’s military forces and their role in national and international conflicts and humanitarian effort

Collections Policy

  • The provenance must relate to the mission of the Garrison Petawawa Military Museum
  • Proof of legal ownership: all donors must sign a certificate of gift stating that they are the rightful owners of the object(s). By donating an object, donors are transferring ownership and custody of the object(s) to the museum.
  • The condition of the object must fall within the ability of the Museum to provide proper conservation and care. If the object is of significant importance, but the museum cannot properly care for it, other solutions will be suggested.

Due to space constraints, similar objects currently in the museum, and other considerations, donations may be rejected.
